Emerging Energies’ waterpower technology to begin generating electricity in 2011.
Chandigarh, India (June, 2010) – Emerging Energies Pvt Ltd has successfully completed the demonstration of the first of many hydrokinetic turbines in India. This technology marks India’s foray into commercial hydrokinetic power – a clean energy solution.
Non-Consumptive power projects are needed to ensure fresh water availability throughout India. Currently, the majority of power projects throughout India consume fresh water from coal, biomass to traditional hydro. Future water supplies are often uncertain and potentially oversubscribed in the most electric power hungry and water scarce regions. One of the major consumers of water in the country is traditional power projects but even traditional hydro projects can consumer massive amounts of fresh water.
Technology will play a key role in mitigating water risk in power production. Emerging Energies’ stands at India’s forefront in development of a technology that will have an immediate impact on how the nation consumes electricity.
Emerging Energies’ technology operates in open rivers, canals, tidal areas and oceans. Its technology (known as Hydrolicity™) is the first surface-suspended system in the industry, and is also deployable downstream from existing hydropower facilities, which allows for new, clean power generation within the existing project footprint.
“Emerging Energies’ open rotor system is the cleanest form of commercial hydro power in India. The potential is enormous for the technology and we are at a critical time for the deployment of renewables that do not consume water yet can meet the growing demand for power throughout the country.” Said Emerging Energies’ President Chandan Singh.
